What beautiful day to give the dogs a bath! With the crazy weather that we had this year, I have put off giving our farm dogs their summer bath. But today was the day! They love getting brushed. The biggest problem we encounter is that they don’t want to wait their turn. So you will have 2 sisters pushing each other out of the way!
The children loved to take part too. Even the baby wanted a turn brushing. Everyone was having a grand time until it was time for the bathing. The Boy loves water play, but when he saw us washing the dogs he began to get very nervous. He suddenly no longer enjoyed the running water and decided it was time to go inside to get away. And that was just fine. You have to let an Autistic child decide what they can and cannot handle. Sometimes you need to push them and sometimes you need to let them escape what is uncomfortable for them. This was uncomfortable for my son, I didn’t see the need to force him to help, so he found something else to do. And that’s okay…
The rest of the children had a blast!
We all got a really great laugh when each dog decided to have her final shake right next to my daughter. And I didn’t need to worry about who was helping because we found an awesome, non-toxic dog shampoo. All the shampoos that I had tried in the past caused my arms to break out in a rash. This stuff smelled awesome, didn’t make me break out, and was completely safe for both my sweet 4-legged babies as well as my 2-legged babies. Best of all, when the specific “Pet Shampoo” is out of stock, I can get the unscented Bath and Shower Gel Base and add some Lemongrass and Purification to it to make my own pet safe shampoo!
