Each and every child is unique. This is true for ALL children. It doesn’t matter if they are kids affected by Autism or not. Over the years I have learned to support what my son finds enjoyable – even though it may not be typical. That means that I don’t push him to play baseball or build with Legos. I don’t try to pressure him into coloring and I don’t make him use tools to build birdhouses.
You can drive a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.
So it is beyond wonderful when those who know the Boy remember him and who he is. Friends and family love to give kids little gifts. Maybe a card comes in the mail with a few dollars. Sometimes they are given temporary tattoos. Well, neither of these things interests my boy. So when we get a box with some hand-me-downs from family and find this:
My heart was happy. The boy was happy. It was wonderful to know that all my talking is not falling on deaf ears.
It didn’t take a lot of money. It didn’t take a lot of time. It took a little thought <3
